Forth Valley Dementia Project
Activities
In addition to a series of official meetings, staff in Forth Valley were invited to attend numerous training and information events. Between April 2007 and March 2008 their invaluable input was recorded and used to inform best practice. All of these activities and events are listed in the final Forth Valley Dementia Project report.
Dementia Convention – 19th April 2007
Volunteers and professionals involved in caring for and supporting people with dementia were invited to attend the convention. The participants were sent three briefing papers about dementia in Forth Valley prior to the event. These detailed the issues to be tackled. The aim of the convention was to share ideas, discuss issues and suggest a way forward with the project. Independent facilitators helped chair the sessions.
Good Practice Seminar - 5th June 2007
This seminar followed on from the convention on 19 April. It was designed around some of the themes and issues raised. Highlighting examples of good practice in the Forth Valley provided a framework for participants to discuss dementia care. They were also provided with information on international examples of good practice in dementia care. The seminar was free of charge forworkers in the Forth Valley area who could not attend the convention.
Visitor Day for Forth Valley Staff - 6th August 2007
The visitor day updated delegates on the progress of the Forth Valley Dementia Project. They were given an overview of the project’s potential impact on the person with dementia, carers and services. Short sessions were provided on dementia education and training, dementia-friendly design and technology and available information resources.
Dementia Training Surgeries
A series of surgeries were presented at the Stirling Royal Infirmary and Falkirk & District Royal Infirmary. The two topics were:
- • What is dementia and what is not
- • Communication and responding to behaviour
In addition to the events above, staff from Forth Valley area were also provided free or reduced price places on our training events and courses throughout the year.
