The purpose-built Iris Murdoch Building is an innovative example of dementia friendly design in practice. Part funded by the Scottish Executive and our own Trust, the Iris Murdoch Building showcases the relaxed and open design principles of design for daily living which helps people with dementia in their day-to-day lives. Open plan, naturally lit and designed to provide a calming atmosphere, the work space provides an inspiration for research into dementia. The Iris Murdoch Building also houses an impressive conference suite and training facilities which are available for hire. Wayfinding features and a garden, which is an easily navigated haven of peace, have been incorporated to highlight good practice. Visit the Iris Murdoch Building, named after the acclaimed author whose life with Alzheimer’s disease has been well documented, to see the unique memory wall and Design and Technology Suite.
