Improving the culture of dementia care internationally

In its tenth year, the Best Practice in Dementia Care Learning Course continues to gain international momentum and we are delighted to announce that the programme will now be rolled out in Italy in addition to Hong Kong and Australia.

In Hong Kong, Best Practice is being delivered through our partners at the Jockey Club Centre for Positive Ageing. To roll the programme out in Hong Kong, the packs have been translated into Cantonese (pictures of some of the Cantonese folders are below). Currently there are 144 facilitators in Hong Kong and between them they have taken through 1,906 participants.

This is a tremendous achievement in itself, but the DSDC is also delighted to hear about the incredible changes in practice as a result of the programme, which means a huge change in the quality of life for people with dementia and those who support them.

Guernsey has also now had the first cohort participants complete the Best Practice programme. Staff at Green Acres Care Home undertook the programme in 2017 and are thrilled to be the first care home on the island to have completed the programme. Congratulations to all involved!

We look forward to working with Focos Argento, our partners in Italy, as they begin to roll out the programme next month.
