DSDC’s Design School has been developed to cover a range of design subjects, for both new builds and renovations. It is ideal for issues that will relate to effective commissioning, project management and designing the internal and external environment, including lighting.
By using a balance of theory and practice it pulls together the key issues for consideration when designing to support people with a diagnosis of dementia and those with a cognitive impairment. A variety of learning and delivery mediums are used, including lectures, workshops and discussion groups.
Delegates will all be provided with their own DSDC Audit Tool, which contains a series of resources for carrying out self-assessment of environments that are used by people with dementia. The course outcomes support the audit tool and so it is an ideal resource for delegates to take back to their place of work.
Although the Design School has a standard programme, each school is attended by delegates from a variety of backgrounds and professions. By having this range, delegates often are able to challenge each other’s perceptions, in turn improving the overall learning experience.
