Life story and reminiscence therapy in dementia care

Programme summary

The use of a life story approach when supporting people with dementia is imperative in order to see and value the person as a unique individual with rich life experiences and cultural beliefs. This unique information must underpin the support we provide in order to be truly person-centred.

The process of Life Story work incorporates many psycho-social approaches, in particular, Reminiscence Therapy.

This interactive learning event will help participants understand the importance of a life story approach to supporting people with dementia in a way in which is unique to each individual. Participants will have the opportunity to test out the practicalities of this approach; understand the benefits of Reminiscence therapy and develop the confidence to take these skills back to their work place.
