Best practice in dementia care: six part self study programme

This learning programme has been developed for staff in the following care settings:

Are you ready for inspection?

Recently the Care Services Minister Paul Burstow welcomed the Care Quality Commission's announcement that it would carry out a programme of inspections of 250 home care providers. These inspections will focus on the respect, care and welfare of people who receive care services in their own homes, as well as the support given to the staff providing care. They'll run alongside the CQC planned reviews of home care services, in addition to the 1,000 plus unannounced inspections of adult social services that they carry out every month. Ministers are determined that people receiving care in their own homes are treated with dignity and respect at all time and Paul Burstow emphasised his intention of "shining a light on poor care and rooting out bad practice".

The lessons are already being learned from similar inspections in hospitals and care homes. If you would like help with improvement of your current service or simply making sure that you will be ready for inspection, and your client group includes people with dementia, we may be able to help you.

This award winning programme cascades dementia training through the care home, hospital, day centre and domiciliary care setting to reduce training costs and develop a shared ethos of care. Person-centred values, approaches and practises are firmly embedded in the study books, as well as the reflective exercises and facilitated group discussions.

A facilitator and health care support worker talk about how this course has helped to improve practice.
