Professor June Andrews, Director of the DSDC, has been named by the Health Service Journal as one of 80 Inspirational Women changing the world of healthcare.
The HSJ Inspirational Women list “celebrates outstanding leaders or generous mentors who are driving change and innovation in service redesign or at the heart of influencing health policy”.
The citation describes June as an “inspiration to everyone who meets her - patients, carers, nurses, social workers, students, politicians. Her centre now has a global reputation for excellence and June has received multiple awards, including the Chief Nursing Officer’s lifetime achievement award in 2012…..she retains an absolutely person-centred approach”.
The judges added: “She has changed and challenged so much and remains really inspirational on the difference that good nursing can make.”
This recognition comes hard on the heels of June being named in June 2013 as one of the UK Clinical Leaders making the greatest impact on health policy, service transformation, and innovation, also by the Health Service Journal.
June comments: “I am delighted to be included in such a distinguished list of women who are seen as making a difference. It is important to celebrate what individuals are doing but I see this award as being more about proper recognition for the importance of work on improving care and services for people with dementia, which must continue to be a priority for all of us”
