DSDC provides high-impact training and education opportunities on design for dementia, including its signature Intersection of Dementia + Design course
I attended the Intersection of Dementia + Design training course in 2019 and found the depth of the training provided over the two days both comprehensive and inspiring. I now class myself as an advocate / champion for good dementia design within my organisation. I have already put much of the learning into practice, as well as spending time raising awareness amongst colleagues to convert them too.
I am currently working as part of a team to deliver an ambitious adult social care capital programme. I am now using the knowledge I gained from the course on a weekly basis to influence the design of the new builds from initial concept through to detailed design stage.
I now feel more confident to challenge design decisions that are not in the best interests of people living with dementia and I am continuing to raise awareness amongst colleagues from all parts of the council and partner organisations.
I can honestly say that the course truly did impact on my practice which will lead to improved lives for people living with dementia in Kirklees.
