Frequently Asked Questions

How do I book onto a course?

You can book through our website - forthcoming training is available through the calendar on our website.

Can I train more than one Faciliator at a time?

Yes - you can train as many Facilitators as you would like. We can deliver training at your place of work if you have a group you’d like to train; this can work out more cost effective.

Are you limited to 8 people per Faciliator group?

We would recommend each Facilitator takes through between 4 - 8 people per group. This is to ensure everyone in the group has the opportunity to participate and engage, while also learning from each other. We have also found that this number of participants in a group is easier to schedule meetings around.

I trained as a Facilitator before 2022, do I need to retake the Facilitator course?

Yes. Speak to the team at dementia@stir.ac.uk as you are eligible for a discounted place.

I trained as a Facilitator in 2022 (or onwards), do I need to retake the full Facilitator course?

No, but you will need to take the revalidation course every two years. This is to bring you up to speed with changes in the field of dementia care and to ensure you are aware of any course updates.

What is the time commitment for the Facilitators course?

Facilitators will receive 16 hours CPD for the course. The training is delivered online, through pre-recorded videos and presentations, over a two week period. This allows Facilitators to work through the course at a pace and time that works around their schedule. Facilitators will then have a week to submit a short reflective exercise to DSDC. The course breakdown can be viewed below.

  • Week 1 and 2 – learners work through the by content at own pace. Please note, participation in the discussion boards is mandatory during this period.

  • Week 3 – learners complete their reflection and upload for marking.

  • Week 4 – marking is completed, feedback and certificates provided.

How do Facilitators structure the learning for their group participants?

DSDC would recommend hosting a range of group meetings over an 8 - 12 week period, so the group can make their way through the Workbook. Facilitators are guided through their Faciliators Guide, and the Workbooks.

Can I purchase more Workbooks/Packs?

Yes, you can purchase more Workbooks as and when required. Contact us at dementia@stir.ac.uk to reorder.

When will the revalidation training be available?

Autumn 2025 - watch this space!
