Cinderford Medical Centre

Congratulations to Cinderford Medical Centre who have achieved a silver award through DSDC’s Design Audit Accreditation. Cinderford is the first GP practice to receive an award.

The new Cinderford Medical Centre replaced the town's former health centre which housed both Dockham Surgery and Forest Health Care. Assura worked alongside GP surgery staff and dementia experts at DSDC to ensure the new building was dementia friendly. Constructed by contractor Speller Metcalfe, the medical centre was built to modern, environmentally friendly, state-of-the-art specifications, and has a number of special features to make it welcoming for people living with dementia and those with disabilities. It includes features such as clear signposting and colour choices which work well for people living with dementia and neurodiversity.

Since then, Assura have teamed up with the University of Worcester’s Association for Dementia Studies on their ‘Designing for Everyone’ project, which builds on research at Cinderford and their work with the national charity, Dimensions, to create a tool to help any primary care space understand how it can make its environment more inclusive.
