DSDC is delighted to announce the first Gold Audit Accreditation in the Scottish Western Isles to Taigh Shiphoirt (Seaforth House).

Taigh Shiphoirt (Seaforth House) is a 52-bed purpose-built care home within the Goathill Development, in Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.  The project represents a major investment by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Western Isles Integrated Joint Board and the Hebridean Housing Partnership. The campus includes extra care housing, respite care, day care services and the START short term assessment and reablement service.

Seaforth House was awarded a University of Stirling, Dementia Services Development Centre (DSDC) Gold award for its ageing and dementia friendly design. Architects Robert Potter & Partners, contractor McLaughlin & Harvey and design team members Pick Everard have delivered a project of high-quality underpinned by evidence-based design research. This includes the DSDC Environments for Ageing and Dementia Design Assessment Tool (EADDAT) and previous novel research undertaken by the client and team into wind performance and its impact on the design of enclosed courtyards. The result is a 52-bedroom care home arranged over four wings and designed to create safe courtyard spaces. The Outer Hebrides is an exposed part of Scotland with strong weather conditions. The design complements and mediates between the provision of a safe and supportive care environment supporting residents to maximise their independence and enjoy the opportunities which this location affords.

Congratulations to everyone involved in the project.
