Mitsukaido Sakura Hospital, Japan, has become the first building outside the UK to receive a formal EADDAT award from DSDC.

Mitsukaido Sakura Hospital is a private, general hospital in a suburb of Greater Tokyo. The hospital provides 93 beds for in-patient treatment and 38 beds within a dialysis centre. The hospital comprises of three types of wards:

  • General Ward for a mixture of internal medicine, surgery, orthopaedic surgery and other specialty surgeries. This ward is intended for the treatment and recovery of acute illnesses where people who are ill or injured are admitted and treated.

  • Long-term care ward for patients who have completed their acute treatment and require long-term care with high medical needs and medical treatment.

  • Integrated Community Care ward provides medical care and discharge support to help the following patients return home or to a care / nursing home:
-Those who have received treatment at home but now need inpatient care and support
-Those receiving care who are being discharged from an acute care hospital and who need short term rehabilitation
-Those who are about to be discharged from an acute care hospital but who need further support in place in the community before being discharged

DSDC was appointed to provide specialist dementia design consultancy advice, which involved identifying issues and providing recommendations. The goal was to provide opportunities for the hospital to introduce design interventions within the hospital that would support people with a diagnosis with dementia.

We are delighted to announce that Mitsukaido Sakura Hospital has been awarded the following two awardss:

  • Silver Award for the ward area

  • Bronze Award for the outpatient department

We would like to extend our sincere congratulations to Mitsukaido Sakura Hospital, and all those involved in this achievement! These awards also mark the first building outside the UK to receive a formal recognition from DSDC under the new EADDAT Audit Accreditation scheme.
