Design training in Japan
Last month DSDC delivered design training for Tokyu E-Life Design Inc. & Mediva Inc., in Japan. The design training followed DSDC input into two projects developed by the Japanese organisations.
DSDC’s team of architects and interior designers initially provided design advice to Tokyu E-Life Design Inc. and their partner Mediva Inc. on the design of the Setagaya Project; 75-bed nursing home and multi-purpose day care centre, which opened in 2017. The Setagaya Project was the first building outside of Europe to be awarded an international gold accreditation for excellence in dementia design by DSDC.
Following the success of the first project, DSDC has worked with Tokyu E-Life Design Inc. and Mediva Inc. on their second senior living development project in Tokaichiba, Yokohama. The project consists of luxury apartments, general amenity housing and senior living accommodation, with the DSDC providing guidance during the design development of the project.
DSDC were delighted to be invited to Japan to undertake an audit of Tokaichiba and deliver training to staff who will be working within the building.
Chief Architect Ms Palmer, who has been leading on the project from DSDC, said: “It was a great honour to be able to work with the team at Tokyu E-Life Design Inc. & Mediva Inc. and deliver this training in their new dementia care suite in Tokyo. It was also a moment of great pride for our team, to see the culmination of three years’ of dementia design consultancy input realised in the Nakamachi Dementia Care project. Tokyu E-Life Design are an enthusiastic and professional team of care practitioners, all working together to improve the quality of care and quality of life of people with dementia.”
